Mushaboom

Y ou may recall my earlier ink/watercolour drawing of very similar mushroom stacks (or you can see it if you scroll down a bit, or click here). I've been wanting to continue my fungus fascination on canvas, and this is the start of my newest painting.  I really worked up the bottom half of the piece today, I'm really happy with it so far, especially the funky beetle with the flower growing from his back...

Garage Garbage Galore

S neak peek of a drawing I'm in the midst of working on. It's quite large (don't have the exact dimensions, too lazy to get up and check), and my standard pen & ink & watercolour. It's completion will involve more images of old furniture, lots more, and perhaps some layers of rice paper.

C-Horsies

T his is an ink drawing from about a month ago, for a friend who had requested seahorses. I looked at random pictures off the internet for the horses, and my previous sketch for the background.

I must say, I was pretty fond of the line drawing before I put colour in...

So here's the finished product. Unfortunately there's a glare on the right side of the image, but you get the idea. I must say, I think I liked it better without colour, but she seemed to like it anyway!

Two days at the Bottom of the Ocean

T his is a detailed little drawing from my sketchbook. I was looking at an article in an old National Geographic - the sketch came in handy for the seahorse drawing I was commissioned a few days later.

I finished up this painting a while ago, and finally photographed with the new camera!
Not my favourite work, but I had fun finishing it with scribbles of oil pastels on top on the dried paint.

Slides n' Ladders

T his peice came quickly.... it exploded a bit. I had fun with the charcoal over gesso technique. Still not resolved, though. It's also my first acrylic peice in a while.

Spirituality dans mon esprit

O ur fourth and final assignment of the semster in painting is on the topic of 'spirituality'. Immeadiately I thought of how it feels to be outside on a sunny day, strolling in the forest, going on thoughtful gamoreet, or at the beach, or just lying down with music, living in the moment, in a place or state of mind of peace. Know what I mean?

One of the places I associate most with having time to relax, reflect and enjoy trees is at Delta Beach, and I'm going to be using many of these images as reference. Taken by yours truly!

A little more work put into this now. I'm really focusing on making the hands and frog-girls pop right now, along with the flute-fish.

Walgate Wagon

I came across these ceramic delights when I was searching for an artist to base my class essay on. I dont believe I've ever posted work that isn't mine before. Why? I have no clue. Random internet discoveries are so crucial to my daily inspiration.

I really like this particular woman's sculptures, and can totally relate to her bright colours and cute animals all smooshed into an adorably chaotic package. Walgate is the name and I like her style.

Metamorphi-phy

I created these watery transformations for my drawing long-project. They started as a series of sketches that I couldn't resist painting - they are just a preliminary step for a more developed concept, however.

There are some inconsistencies among the interactions of the people and animals, some look as if they're becoming one and some of them look like costumes... This doesn't bother me too much because I was just painting basically everything that came to mind. I'm not sure which direction I want to go in terms of my next step, but regardless I think they work as a series for now.

Jury

T his new cavas gave me some problems in terms of inspiration.
The project outlines were "an unfinished painting, but to look finished," which I don't think should be too difficult. This isn't actually complete yet, despite the guidelines, and will be completely incomplete in a week or two, I expect.

Snip & Paste

T hese were a part of a drawing project, to create several collages to use as reference for one drawing. I felt fungi would be fun.
