A Soft Place & Statement
A Soft Place (Bear Legs), 12x22", watercolour and ink on paper. 2014
In the work I have been procuring of late, I seek to reflect a sense of
transformation, texture and a touch of absurdity beneath each moment
of idleness; My work focuses on rendering figures which fall
somewhere between youthful, decrepit, beautiful and brittle. The
bodies I paint, primarily feminine, are glimpsed in an innately
empathetic moment - however defiant to engage with the viewer. The
images portray the mundane everyday, playing with the allure of
comfort and the underlying anxieties that may be concealed. The
paintings whisper of a fear of displacement and an ache for danger.
My imagery echoes themes from American folklore, imbibing a sense of
innocent story-telling while portraying figures threatened by
something unseen; if only their own restless passivity.
Madamme Rip Van Winkle
30x40", oil on canvas. 2014
Other
hen-pecked madammes wish they could have shares in Rip's good luck and had
the luxury of sleeping through the hardships of American Revolution.

The Butterfly
The Butterfly, 12x20" watercolour and ink on paper & Pre-sketch
The first drawing in a series inspired by imagery derived from traditional tattoo art, but I will be playing around with graphic-novel-type formatting. Think butterflies, ships, daggers, roses and skulls on a voyage!
I have included the pre-sketch to this watercolour drawing, as I find my plans often retain as much or more charm than the finished piece itself...

Internet Cute
I bought a new set of watercolours the other day.. to break them in, I did this little study yesterday.
Yes, it is a dog and a deer nuzzling. Thanks, viral cute things.
Sometimes one just needs a lil' dose of cute on a dreary sunday, right? Source:

Work Deaks
Hello! Here is an equation for you.
Office job + no internet access + some remaining joie de vivre = OFFICE DOODLES
These are not created with any intention of being fantastic or profound, but merely as a method of remaining sane between monotonous filing and chiming, "Bonjour, comment puis-je vous aider", into my headset (yes, I wear a headset... good lord).
The content stems almost entirely from whatever smudgy photographs I've collected on my cell. During a lull in activity, I might slip out the little notebook I carry around and unsheathe my marker.
I pasted on a little head-embellishment later on these..
and if I tire of my smudgy phone inspiration:
... get back to work!

Touch
I drew this about a month ago.
The combination of the pale colours, light pencil and utter crap cell-phone picture (terrible, I know) = not a great post... better camera will be found.

Memories in pencil
{Split in two
to remember you
what if
each what if
created a different past?}
..Lots of subtleties of the pencil marks are lost in the picture, alas.
